The Northern Virginia Chapter’s “Strong Girls, Strong Women” Mentoring Program offers Black girls in Northern Virginia middle and high schools opportunities for academic excellence and personal development. The girls participate in ten-month mentoring programs, including various workshop topics on leadership development, interpersonal relationships, goal setting, communications and public speaking, STEAM, high school and college readiness, and civic engagement.
The Black Girls Rock Book Club provides opportunities for mentees to maintain and improve their reading comprehension skills and vocabulary. Reading and math activities during the summer months prevent learning loss and avoid long-term damage to children’s well-being, confidence, and productivity.
Each year, we award academic scholarships to deserving Black female students who are residents of and seniors graduating from a public high school in Arlington County, Fairfax County, or the City of Alexandria.
